STATUTORY PROGRAMME

PROFESSIONAL LAW COURSE (PLC)

The Professional Law Course (PLC) is a two-year practical training programme designed for Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduates from approved universities in Ghana and other common law jurisdictions. It equips students with the professional skills and ethics required to practise as Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Ghana.

Civil Procedure

Company & Commercial Practice

Criminal Procedure

Law of Evidence

Law Practice Management & Legal Accountancy

Part 2

Advocacy & Legal Ethics

Conveyancing & Drafting

Family Law & Practice

Interpretation of Deeds & Statute

Admission Requirements

Who May Apply

  • LLB graduates from public or private universities in Ghana accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and the General Legal Council (GLC)

  • Ghanaian LLB graduates from foreign common law jurisdictions (e.g. UK, USA, Canada) who meet subject requirements.

Applicant must:

  • Hold and LLB from a GLC-approved institution; and

  • Pass both the Entrance Examination and an Interview

Required Core Subject (for foreign applicants)

  • Criminal Law

  • Law of Torts

  • Law of Contract

  • Law of Equity and Succession

  • Law of Immovable Property

  • Company Law

  • Commercial Law

Plus one elective:

  • Natural Resources Law

  • Environmental Law

  • Intellectual Property Law

  • Law of Taxation

Successful completion of the Professional Law Course and the required internship qualifies graduates to be called to the Bar and enrolled as Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Ghana.

POST-CALL LAW COURSE

The Post-Call Law Course is designed for Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians who have already been called to the Bar in other Common Law jurisdictions with legal systems comparable to that of Ghana.The course provides a structured introduction to the Ghanaian legal system and professional practice.

Duration:

One (1) Academic Year

Qualification Awarded:

Barrister-at-Law(BL)

Subjects undertake intensive study in the following compulsory subjects:

  • Law of Evidence

  • Family Law & Practice

  • Interpretation of Deeds & Statutes

  • Ghana Constitutional Law

  • Ghana legal System

The course runs from October to June each academic year. Final examinations are conducted at the end of the programme.

Successful candidates are enrolled as Barristers and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
